Spectacular action in a spectacular location as Ubrazil triumphs on home… sand

10 September 2024

The Rio 2024 FISU World University Championship Beach Sports showcased an amazing combination of events on Botafogo Beach.

Approximately one thousand participants from 34 countries competed in four sports on the Rio de Janeiro sand to become the first ever FISU Beach Sports World University Champions.

The home team shone brightly, securing the top spot on the podium with 6 golds, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes. The second place went to Argentina, with 2 golds and 2 bronzes, while Germany – who excelled in beach volleyball – took third place with 2 golds and 1 bronze.

The first of a kind

This event, which was the first of its kind, was clearly a huge success, and was celebrated in style with plenty of music and dancing, reminding all student-athletes and officials who participated that Brazil is the land of carnaval!

But of course, there was plenty of action between the samba of the opening ceremony and the party at the closing ceremony. Botafogo Beach was buzzing with student-athletes, coaches, referees, officials, staff and many volunteers. Everyone enjoyed themselves during and in between the competitions, with many activities to encourage everyone to socialise and relax between the matches.

All the exciting action was streamed live on FISU.tv. Below you will find the results as well as quite a few pictures, but you can find a lot more if you visit the event’s official website.
